How does diode laser hair removal work?
Diode laser technology is based on the selective absorption of laser light. The laser light targets the melanin content of the hair, where it is converted into heat energy, destroying the hair follicle while sparing the surrounding tissue.

The working mechanism of the diode laser:
Its purpose is to damage the hair follicle while sparing the epidermis. The basis of laser-based systems used in hair removal is selective photothermolysis. Based on this principle, selective thermal destruction of the target occurs if a sufficient amount of energy is delivered at a wavelength that is well absorbed by the “target”. Energy refers to the number of photons delivered and is measured in joules (J). Power is measured in watts (W), which refers to the rate of energy delivery (1W=1J/s). Flux, energy density is the total energy delivered per unit area in J/cm2. Pulse length refers to the amount of time (ns,ms) of laser energy applied. Pulse frequency is measured in HERZ (1 Herz=1puls/s). Wavelength is measured in nanometers, which refers to the distance between the peaks of the light waves.
All of these are important to reach the ideal depth, with the ideal pulse length, and with the ideal energy and energy density, with the laser to the area and eliminate hair growth – while not damaging the skin.
The longer the wavelength, the deeper the laser penetrates the skin. (It is important to know that not all of our hair follicles are at the same depth, e.g.: scalp 3-5mm, mustache 1-2mm, bikini line 3-4mm). So weaker machines will not damage the hair follicle, because the appropriate amount of energy reaches 4mm deep. This way, our hair will definitely grow back on the treated surface.
The outcome of the treatment is influenced by the following: Laser parameters (Wavelength, Flux, Treatment aperture size, Pulse length, Skin cooling system), Skin phenol type, hair characteristics, hormonal characteristics, etc. Depending on all of this, 6-10 treatments are required in the first year, and then it can be maintained with annual follow-up treatments.
To achieve the desired results, 6-8 treatments are usually required, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on hair type, skin type and individual hormonal factors.
